Ive run into this before and it can happen, and most often does happen when you are online on your computer. If your child or you, for that matter, ends up clicking on some quiz that asks to send the answer to your mobile phone number, and you input that number, youre automatically signed up for those services. I found 3 $10 monthly services on my phone a few years ago. ATT removed them immediately and I ended up putting a block on my phone for any paid services to be added. That means if I did want to use my phone bill to pay for some internet service, or something I buy online, I cant...but using your phone to pay for something by adding it to your next phone bill, ie, buying ring tones or internet game stuff, always costs more than buying those same items using paypal or credit/debit card. So have the phone company block all external companies from adding charges to your bill, and they wont be able to do it any longer. They are so sneaky the way that they do this, you dont even realize that youre authorizing that monthly charge. Ive gone back and thoroughly reviewed those pages that it happened on, and you have to scroll down past 5 or 6 empty screens before they have the little blurb that tells you about the monthly fee. So they are covered legally, but still highly unethical because most people stop scrolling once they find a blank screen as they scroll. They figure theyve run to the end of the content for that page. Hope this helps. Its NOT coming from something you actually did on the phone itself...its coming from something online while on the computer. Tell your kids to NEVER let anything send confirmation to the cell number. Unless you are intentionally doing that for some reason and need to verify, like UPS or some legitimate service that would notify you by text...otherwise the charges will pop on without your knowledge.
